Pom Pom Owls, Reverence, and Possible Nursery Fun

Earlier this year I saw a fun idea to get your new sunbeams to hold still and stay in their seats over at this blog and it got me thinking about how fun it would be to use in nursery.  So here's the plan for fall singing in nursery

I'm gonna make these darling pom pom owls
and then make some Big Nests (circles) with baby owl eggs in them (do owls lay eggs . . okay that was such a blonde question I'm embarrassed I even typed it but it's funny so I'll keep it!) for the kids to sit on.  I'll encourage them to keep their nests and eggs warm by sitting on them and their little hands still by helping their owls be reverent.

This idea could also work well for those kids that are super wiggly and need tactile things to keep them focused!

Props for Nursery That Work!

I have some new additions to my nursery repertoire that work awesome.  A sister in the Primary Presidency gave me some frog finger puppets like this and the kids absolutely love them.  They beg me to get out the frogs.  I bring them out and then have them have their frogs do various things like hop really high, take a little nap, spin in a circle, etc.  Then I've used them with various action songs like Do As I'm Doing, Give Said the Little Stream, and others.  Be creative they will love it.  I think you can get these from Oriental Trading for pretty cheap. . .worth a shot.
I also have discovered a little gem to use in nursery.  The song "Little Seeds Lie Fast Asleep" and just go with the motions of the song.  it's amazing to see them lie on the floor pretending to be asleep until you say, "wake up wake up says the sun" and then grow tall.  It's darling to watch.

Last, if you haven't done Daddy's Homecoming in Nursery you should, and to make it extra cute put a big pause before "what" and have them raise their palms up in a question and say what really long and exaggerated.  It is so cute to see them.  Good luck and let me know what your new favorites in nursery are.

Nursery Props and Ideas

I made some new props this week to try out in nursery. . .I have a 22 month old so I tried them out and she seemed to really get into actually having something to hold during songs so maybe it will be a success. . .I'll let you know.

Follow the Prophet sticks. . .they can raise them in the air when you say prophet (I only do the chorus bytheway) or march with them and yes if you're wondering I did defile my Ensign and cut out all the President Monson pictures I could find. . .my printer was broken!
Jesus Wants Me For a Sunbeam. . .they loved to jump up in the air with them on "sunbeam"
Do as I'm Doing shakers . . .got them at the dollar store in the party section and they are so crappy made that they aren't very loud so they're perfect!
Christmas Bells!!!!  Yeah Christmas is Coming!!

Nursery Ideas

I just started going into the nursery today and it was tons of fun but I still needed more ideas. . .thank goodness for all you creative men and women out there willing to share.  Here's one to get you started on nursery singing time.

Singing Time in Nursery

I also used Christmas Bells today and let them ring bells while I sang it a few times and they loved it!
