Praise to the Man

I've debated all week about how to teach this song. . .it's got a lot of weird words and hard rhythms but I trust in the leaders of the church who put it in the program this year so I'm off and running and saying lots of prayers.  Here's my plan.

Jr. Primary - I'm going to introduce it by talking about silly words. . .nonsensical words and make believe words.  They should have lots of fun ideas of words.  After that I'll talk about the difference between how we talk now and how people talked in the time of Joseph Smith.  Little by little I'll start teaching the song using clapping rhytms and parroting and my pictures.  During this time I will talk a lot about what each line means and bear testimony of the Prophet Joseph Smith.

Sr. Primary - Sr. Primary will be a lot easier because their understanding and reading skills are much better.  First I will have a bunch of hymn books available and will sing through the songs with the kids having them mimic being in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.  Then, I  have used ideas from this family home evening lesson idea.  I printed out the word strips that tell what the lines mean.  I will hand out meanings to different groups of kids and give them some time to come and place them next to the pictures on the flipchart (I'll tape the chart on the chalkboard) they represent.  I'll use the same methods and junior primary only I think we'll be able to do the complete first verse.

I'm not sure how this will go but I'm going to kind of play it by ear and hope for the best.

  3. I really like the pictures you have put together for verse 1. But it appears that I will have to pay either a one-day fee of $9 in order to download and print, or I have to subscribe to Scribd and pay a monthly fee. Do you not have it available for free?
